2019 is another modern classic vintage in Bordeaux. The general agreement is that purity and consistency really defines the hard-to-resist 2019s. And the best news? The positive growing season produced a broad success across all the zones – Left Bank and Right Bank – from the modest petit Châteaux up thru to the Classified Estates. Success in red, white & sweet puts this vintage in company with the best vintages over the last 50 years.

What are the pundits saying?

Jancis Robinson: “The great thing about 2019 is its consistency and the fact that it seems to have masses of ripe fruit, but lots of tannin to keep the wines going for many a long year (longevity is a classic Bordeaux attribute). And miraculously in view of the weather, the 2019s also have quite enough freshness to make them alluring.”

James Suckling: “I have always loved vintages that make great wines that impress you with the nose before the palate. And 2019 does just that. Harmony, balance, and freshness are definitely the hallmarks of the 2019 after tasting and rating almost 1,500 Bordeaux from the vintage. The reds in general have a cool fruit character to them, despite the hot grape-growing season, and they also show fine, integrated tannins and bright finishes. They were extremely aromatic and perfumed from the outset, with complexity in fruit and soil-derived nuances such as flowers, wet earth, mushrooms, and bark. The greatest wines now change all the time in the glass, both with aromatics and flavors.”
