Tempranillo Time!
It goes by many names: Tino Fino, Tinta del Toro, Tinta Roriz, Aragonez, depending on where it comes from. But no matter where you go, the world’s fourth most widely planted varietal can always be called Tempranillo. Tempranillo has been grown on the Iberian Peninsula since the time of Phoenician settlements. It is the main grape used in Rioja, and is often referred to as Spain's noble grape. And while 87% of the world’s Tempranillo hails from Spain, the grape does exceedingly well in other areas including, Portugal, Chile, Argentina, and here in the U.S. where it’s even considered the signature grape of Texas! Come down Saturday, January 25th to taste great Tempranillo based wines from across the globe and see what Rioja has known all along.
