Triple 100 Pt Score. Great producer, argueably the greatest vintage ever for Montalcino. 

This is an incredible buy for your cellar. Typically, wines with these types of reviews will run you 3X the cost of this wine, easily. This wine is a textbook example of how top-notch Brunello di Montalcino should drink @ a very reasonable price. 
 
The Colle al Matrichese estate has been within the Costanti family for over two centuries. The estate spans 10 hectares in the east of Montalcino very close to Casanova de Neri another one of our favorite producers. The vineyards are at an altitude of 400 meters which is not quite Le Ragnaie status, however, Costanti’s vineyards are among the highest in Montalcino. The vineyards also have a south-east exposure which is ideal in terms of the sunlight it receives. The subsoil replete with limestone and fossilized shells, the wine consistently showcases stunning minerality alongside its hauntingly delicious fruit. This winery is 100% organic. 
 
Winemaking duties are handled by Andrea Constanti who took over in 1983 for his uncle. With some big shoes to fill, Andrea quickly rose to the opportunity. Andrea not only preserved the reputation of this great producer he brought it to even new heights. The 2019 Vintage of his Brunello is an example of just that. Conti Costanti has received three 100 pt reviews from some of the most respected publicists regarding Italian wine. 

100 Pts Decanter - I remember tasting Costanti’s 2019 Rosso di Montalcino in 2021 and thinking how Brunello-esque it was: the sturdy structure was almost uncharacteristic, yet it certainly boded well for the Brunello. Simply gloriously sculpted, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is indeed statuesque and stately. While it doesn’t give everything up all at once, it is gracious in its presentation. From chestnut forest and sweet earth to anise and orange extract, the aromas are visceral, and boundless depths of wild red berries suffuse the palate. It vibrates with scintillating acidity and long, tactile tannins which stretch out leisurely. I bet that Rosso has hit its stride now – if you have some, it’s what you'll want to drink while waiting for this captivatingly beautiful Brunello. I can't help but imagine what next year’s Riserva release has in store.

100 Pts Ian D’Agata - Good bright ruby-red. Penetrating floral aromas of red plum, blackcurrant, star anise and cinnamon, plus a bright violet topnote. Sweet, lush and round, with a cool-climate quality contributing to the wine’s impression of steely resolve. I love the combination of silky texture and complexity here. Finishes broad and long, with ripe tannins and a multifaceted personality. What else to say? Beautiful, elegant, mineral, suave, pretty and elegant Brunello sums this gorgeous wine up nicely. It is one of the Brunellos of the 2019 vintage. Drinking window: 2029-2043.
