Domaine Berthelmot Gevrey Chambertin Craite-Paille 2022

The 2022 Vintage of Domaine Berthelemot represents the 15th anniversary of the Domaine. This Domaine for the last 15 years has done nothing but ascend. The success of the Domaine is fueled by Brigette Berthelemot’s passion and enthusiasm. Perhaps her most important move in bringing this winery to greatness is when Brigette hired Marc Cugney to handle the estates vineyards and winemaking duties. IT was Marc who pushed the winery towards Organic and Bio Dynamic farming practices. Domaine Berthelemot is “H.E.V.” certified and the wines are also certified organic starting in the 2021 vintage. Brigette’s son Thomas also jumped on board with the Domaine back in 2017 to start his journey as the next in line to take over this fast-growing Domaine.

Planting for the two appellations, Craite-Paille and Justice, which started in 1950 was an advantage for this zone; the wines from these lower fields of Gevrey are somewhat more supple and pleasantly fruity.

Vineyard: The Craite-Paille site is located at the lower end of the combe (or small valley) of Lavaux; the substratum consists in a mix of limestone, clay and alluvium ensuring good drainage in this area only slightly inclined. (Vines Planted in 1970, V.V.)

Tasting Notes: Ruby-red in color, typical of Pinot noir, with aromas of red fruit, cherry and red-currant; in the mouth, it is rich, tender and silky with a delicate touch of tannins.
