Domaine Lame Delisle Boucard Bourgeuil Cuvee Prestige 2014
Served @ DB's "Aged out" Tasting. Superb everyday value. Soft, easy drinking.
Created by Pierre Guyot in 1869, Domaine Lamé Boucard was passed to his son-in-law Jules Lamé, who took advantage of the phylloxera crisis and was one of the first in the region to plant grafted vines. Little by little, he increased the vineyard holdings. Returning from a prisoner of war camp in 1945, Jules’ son Lucien decided with his wife Yvonne to bottle their entire 1947 crop to sell under their label instead of selling it to the négociants as they had previously done. Cuvée Prestige is made from the oldest vines on the mid-slope parcels, where the clay-chalk soil is the most interesting. This is a deliciously well-balanced yet rich Cabernet Franc. Coming up to a decade now, it is ageing, but it is still showing remarkable freshness and will continue to develop for the next few years. The tannins are soft with delicate aromas of strawberries and blackberries combined with a hint of black pepper spice. With Bordeaux utilising this grape increasingly, this wine will appeal to any oenophile who loves medium-bodied and fruit-forward wines. This may be one of the best-value red wines I have tasted this year. Drink 2023 – 2030. Adam Bruntlett, Senior Buyer, Berry Bros. & Rudd (November 2023)
