Domaine Trapet-Rochelandet Gevrey-chambertin 1er Cru Bel Air 2019
Served @ DB's "Cote de Nuit" Tasting
Located in the heart of Gevrey Chambertin, Domaine Trapet Rochelandet is a relatively new Domaine run by Laurant Trapet Rochelandet. In 2006 he combined the vineyards of his father (Trapet) and his mother (Rochelandet) to create a new Domaine with 17 acres of vineyards spread across the top sites in the region. Laurant tends to an exceptional collection of vineyards which include 100+ year old vines, without the use of pesticides or additives. The yields here are very low, and everything is managed by hand, including the plowing of the fields. Domaine Trapet Rochelandet is a great example of boutique, small production Burgundy crafted in a very traditional and classic style.
Tasting notes: The Bel-Air Premier Crus vineyard is a cooler site since the vines are just below the forest, explains Laurent Rochelandet. Located next to the Ruchottes and above the Clos de Bèze, two Grands Crus. “The grapes don’t ripen at the same time as the others. You don’t have as much sun up here as in the other vineyards, but you get a wine which has a very nice minerality.” Right next to Bel-Air is the Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru site. This is one of the few Premier Crus at the top of the slope. This wine has a nose of wild berries and currant. The palate is lively with a beautiful harmony between the crunchiness of the fruits and the beautiful minerality.
