Le Macchiole Bolgheri Rosso 2022

Top Super-Tuscan Producer. Blend of the 3 single varetial wines they produce that run $200-$400 a bottle.

Le Macchiole Description

Superb value from top producer Le Macchiole. Le Macchiole is known for their incredible single varietal expressions, Scrio (Syrah), Paleo (Cabernet Franc), and Messorio (Merlot). These wines range in price from $200-$400 a bottle and rival the finest wines from the region. Le Macchiole also makes a Bolgheri Rosso blend which is merely a blend of all the excess juice from their three mono-varietal bottlings. While more of the Bolgheri Rosso is produced, it sells out just as quickly as its exponentially more expensive older siblings because savvy wine buyers know the value of this wine at the price.

A true “calling card” wine as we like to refer to it.

Behind every great label is a great winemaker. Le Macchiole is made by the great Luca d’Attoma since 1991. Luca is in a class with the top consulting oenologists in Italy today. In addition to consulting for this great winery, Luca also makes the wines for Tua Rita and Le Pupile Saffredi. It was in fact Luca that put Le Macchiole on the same playing field as Sassicaia, Ornellaia, and Solaia. Luca was awarded 100 Pts Spectator for his efforts on the 2004 vintage of Le Macchiole Messorio. Since that time, oenophiles eyes have been firmly affixed on anything Luca produces.

Winemaker Notes: First bottled in 2004, this wine is the purest and most unadulterated expression of Bolgheri for Le Macchiole. It is a red that possesses grace and intensity and that is eminently drinkable without compromising structure and complexity.

James Suckling: 94 Points

This is really polished and gentle, with ultra-fine tannins that run the length of the wine. It's medium-bodied with a creamy texture and a long and expressive finish of red fruit, stone, and thyme.

Wine Spectator: 91 Points

A ripe, juicy version, boasting crunchy cherry, blackberry, and spice flavors. This leans to the tannic side, with a mouthwatering, moderately long finish. Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2030.
