Little Boat Rose 2023
Served by the Glass @ Per Se in Manhattan. Not like the Cali Rose's you are used to, this is much more "Provence" in its style.
William Knuttel is a benchmark winemaker in California. William has been making wine in Sonoma for over 35 years, and is a benchmark producer from the region. William teamed up on the Little Boat project with Brad Alper, whose Square Peg Vineyard is situated in the heart of the Russian River next to top vineyards such as Aubert’s section of Ulises Valdez, Stoetz Lane (UV-SL) as well as Dutton’s Morelli Lane, and Stoetz Lane vineyard owned by Bill Price (Kosta Browne).
The collaboration also includes some of the greatest Sommeliers in the world. Harley Carberry (Joel Robuchon), Phillip Dunn (Spago), Lucas Paya (wine director for celebrity chef Jose Andres), and Aldo Sohm (Le Bernardin). It’s also important to add that Aldo Sohm won “Best Sommelier in America” in 2007. This allowed Aldo to represent the U.S. in the “Best Sommelier in the World”, a competition he won, in 2008. The previously mentioned Sommeliers have all had their hand in the production of this wine, styling it to be extremely food friendly, and “Burgundian” in its nature.
In addition to Per Se – Little Boat’s wines can only be found on the wine lists at top restaurants such as, Spago (Beverly Hills), Picasso (Vegas), Joel Robuchon (N.Y.C.), Le Bernardin (N.Y.C.), as well as Wolfgang Puck’s “Cut”. We are very lucky to receive a small allocation of these wines.
If you are looking for a wine to brighten up your summer a little bit, Little Boat Rosé is divine! This is one of the few Cali Rosés I would recommend even to a palate that prefers Provence Rose (which we do too!)
Tasting notes: Elegant, complex, easy to drink, this beautiful wine was inspired by the freshness and finesse that characterizes the select Cotes de Provence Rosé wines. 12.9% ABV% Very elegant!
Predominantly a Rosé wine made from Pinot Noir sourced from the Russian River Valley. The wine was segmented with a drop of Red Zinfandel from the Dry Creek Valley, and a dash of Chardonnay from Sonoma. The zin adds backbone to the wine, and an added depth of flavor while the Chardonnay gives the wine some body and mouthwatering acidity on the back end. All varietals are fermented separately in neutral oak in a cold room.
