Peterson Winery - Primary Red Zinfandel Dry Creek 2018
Insider Wine
Fred Peterson got his start in the wine industry at notable wineries such as Ridge as well as Mt. Eden Vineyards. Fred has worked in a myriad of roles from GM to winemaker as well as a vineyard manager. Fred has done it all from making wines to building wineries and planting vineyards.
Today, Fred Peterson is a staple in the Dry Creek Valley AVA of California. The Peterson approach is to capture the essence of vintage and vineyard—a philosophy they call “Zero Manipulation” - with low tech, yet high touch winemaking techniques to produce wines of a place, wines with soul. Fred has been making wine out in Napa for decades.
The Primary Red label is an insider label produced @ Fred Peterson's winery. For the label, he merely takes some of the barrels of wine he produces under the Peterson label, and bottles them at his winery under the Primary Red label as a favor to the folks that represent his wines. There literally is zero difference past the packaging.
What Fred is best known for is his work @ Ridge winery, a top Zinfandel producer. Fred's Zinfandels are highly sought after as very few Zinfandel producers have been able to produce a wine with a big presence on palate, but with finesse on the back end. A lot of these wines are high in ABV% and can run “Hot”. Fred’s wines have an elegance to go along with the big presence on palate. His Zinfandels will run you anywhere from $26-$40 a bottle. The Primary Red is $20 a bottle and it delivers exactly the same!
