Roar Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir 2021
Roar is a family winery specializing in small lots of Santa Lucia Highland's Pinot Noir, Syrah and beginning in the summer of 2009, Chardonnay. Their roots in the Santa Lucia Highlands are quite deep. Both Gary and Rosella grew up in California's agricultural heartland where Gary’s family has farmed for over 100 years. After graduating from Cal Poly with a degree in agribusiness, Gary took over the running of the family farm business, which owned and managed over 200 acres of row crops in the Salinas Valley. Recognizing the region's potential for premium wine grapes, Roar planted Rosella's Vineyard in 1996. Roar also co-own and manages the Garys' Vineyard with Gary Pisoni of Pisoni Vineyard.
Winemaker Notes: Roar's latest vintage of Pinot Noir wonderfully captures the essence of winegrowing in the Santa Lucia Highlands. The wine shines in the glass with a pristine ruby color, supported by aromas of raspberries and blackberries. What comes next is classic SLH. Red fruits on the front of the palate shift into layers of cherry cola, thyme and rosemary herbs wrapped in a supple and leathery texture. Acid finds a subtle harmony throughout tasting. While this year's edition offers a little more restraint, it does not lack in the showy and bold character that Roar strives for.
