The winemaker for Scattered Peaks is Steven Urberg who is following in the footsteps of the previous winemaker, the infamous Joel Aiken. Urberg brings over 25-years of winemaking experience most recently as Director of Winemaking at Gloria Ferrer Winery & WindVane Wines in Sonoma, CA where he received over 130 90+point ratings from Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast alone!!!
The fruit for this wine is sourced from the Usibelli Vineyard just outside of St Helena. The vineyard sits at about 1000 feet above sea level, much higher than the valley floor. The vineyard experiences high diurnal swings, warm days, and cooler nights. The vineyard is well-drained with gravely and loamy soil. Typically, you don’t find fruit of this caliber in a wine at this modest of a price point.
Its also important to add that 2021 is a killer vintage. The drought in 2021 lowered yields and created a smaller more intense berry as the vines were stressed. The grapes were packed with flavor and the smaller berries let you know that 2021 was an amazing vintage.
