Stephane Vivier is a proven commodity when it comes to making world class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. One of the most sought after producers of Burgundian Varietals in California is the HdV label (Hyde de Villane). This is a joint venture between the Hyde family of Carneros and Aubert de Villane, proprietor of D.R.C. (Domaine Romanee Conti).

Stephane Vivier grew up in Meloisey, Burgundy and started making wine with his elderly neighbor whose family had been making wine for centuries. Stephane went on to obtain degrees in Viticulture and Enology from the University de Bourgogne in Dijon. After working in Switzerland, Sonoma, as well as New Zealand, Stephane developed a greater understanding of both the Old and New World way of making wine. Stephane then went on to become the winemaker for HdV starting in 2002, and he was in that role for 12 vintages.

The Vivier Chardonnay - Stylistically, a California cousin to Meursault, this wine is fresh, crisp with layers of white fruit and apricot. Focused and precise, this generous wine imparts flavors of citrus, pear, and a whisper of clove. Expect a long perfect finish and an overwhelming desire for more.

Planted to Wente Selection Chardonnay originating from Meursault and brought to California in the 1890s, this fruit is sourced from the Flocchini Vineyards. Cool marine breezes sweep the hillsides of morning fog, though it’s a cool and windy site with extremely shallow rocky clay soil. Production is 10 Barrels (248 cases)

Tasting Notes: The nose is dense and rich, infused with lemon zest, apricot and salty impression of oyster shells. On the palate, the floral and fruit notes are elegantly balanced, with a mouthwatering acidity supporting the intricate notes of jasmine, citrus and white and yellow pit fruits. It is a dense and precise wine, with fresh yellow fruit, mineral infused, lemony flavors. It finishes long with a terrific sapidity and lemon-and-mineral length.
