Domaine Chavy-Chouet Maranges “Les Meurees” 2022
Domaine Chavy-Chouet is owned and operated by Romaric Chavy who took over the estate for his father in 2014. Romaric is an 8th generation winemaker within his family. Romaric learned how to produce great burgundy working under his father, Hubert Chavy, who founded the domaine in 1982. Chavy-Chouet is one of the oldest families in Puligny Montrachet. The Chavy’s who pre-date Hubert were primarily viticulturalists and sold their fruit to Bouchard Pere. Romaric’s mother is formerly a Ropiteau, a name that resonates in Meursault as it is one of the oldest family lineages in Meursault.
Today Chavy-Chouet stands as a 15-hectare Domaine, producing wine in 14 A.O.C.’s. 80% of the wine this Domaine produces is white burgundy. Their vineyard is split up into 70 different parcels all of which are 40 years are more. French Allier’s are used for the oak aging with a medium toast on them to produce more balanced wines. Romaric does not fine nor filter his wines, allowing the wines to be enjoyed in their purest form.
Tasting Notes: Plenty of versatility and subtlety on the palate, with floral notes. A good accompaniment to a cold starter or fish. Try with a slightly sharp hard cheese, such as Cantal or Gouda, to draw out its natural vivacity. Chavy-Chouet Maranges Blanc Les Meurees is made from 100 percent Chardonnay.
