Very low production, has not been rated, highly undervalued.

La Caccia Di San Giovanni Description

La Caccia di San Giovanni is a property in the heart of Tuscany that is run by the Fraiche Wine Group. Recently founded in 2018, the Fraiche Wine Group is making some serious waves in the wine industry. The team is led by Michael Kennedy who was the former Head Sommelier at “Blue” (Eric Ripert’s Restaurant) as well as the wine director for the Ritz Carlton on the Grand Cayman. Michael teamed up with winemaker Marc Gagnon who left his position at Bryant Family Vineyards to form this incredible team. Marc was also the assistant winemaker @ Screaming Eagle under Andy Ericson. Marc’s resume has too many accolades to mention, however, it includes many 100 Pt Scores.

Marc is without question, one of the next great winemakers to come out of Napa, following in the footsteps of the greats like Paul Hobbs, Thomas Rivers Brown, and Andy Ericsson.

Antonio Galloni of Vinous described Marc’s work as “utterly brilliant”.

La Caccia is a 100% certified organic estate. In addition to producing incredible olive oil from their 133 acre estate, they produce one wine, La Caccia di San Giovanni. 100% estate fruit. Only 480 cases are produced of the wine, which the blend changes slightly from vintage to vintage, the 2021 is a blend of 50% Sangiovese, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot. French oak is used for the aging process, only 50% new. This is a very elegant style of Super Tuscan. HIGHLY age-able, this wine is drinkable now and will get better for 2 to 3 decades!!!

If you are familiar with the great Super Tuscans, this wine offers SERIOUS value at the price point. This wine does not get rated, as there is not enough produced, and the wine has sold out in every vintage.

Tasting Notes: An incredibly elegant wine from the estate. In 2021, the vineyard was dry for most of the year and rained somewhat soon before harvest, lessening the intense concentration and adding a bit of softness. The wine was vinified classically, and the oak treatment was quite dialed in after learning from the past vintages. From 2017 until the current vintage, this is the most elegant and expressive of the wines from La Caccia.
