Podernuovo Argirio 2016

PoderNuovo Description

We held our Tuscan Value Tasting last evening. The wine below (Along with the Bonnachi Molino del Piano 2016 Brunello) dominated the order forms. Podernuovo’s “Argirio” 2016 was hands down the top selling wine at the tasting.

One of the most famous families in Italy is Bulgari, one of the most famous jewelry dynasties and luxury brands in the world. When son Giovani Bulgari fell in love with wine he decided to enroll in school to study viticulture to learn how to make wine. Giovani graduated and partnered with his father Paolo Bulgari who has plenty of capital to set the winery up properly. No expense was spared in finding the perfect plot of land and building a state of the art wine making facility.

The Podernuovo estate was purchased in 2004 by Paolo and Giovanni Bulgari. The vineyard had been abandoned many years before, and the challenge was to bring it to new life, and have it produce elegant and harmonious wines. Wines that would capture the essence, the beauty and harmony of this specific place, respecting its nature and its history. We firmly believe that the Bulgari’s have met and exceeded their expectations.

The 2016 Vintage in Tuscany as we have been telling you has gone down as one of the best vintages for the region of all time. It is a 98 Pt Vintage per Robert Parkers Wine Advocate, making it the highest scoring vintage of all time. The wines now have had some time in the bottle, and they are showing incredibly well.

Podernuovo Argirio is highly undervalued for what’s in the bottle.

Tasting Notes: A great Tuscan wine from Cabernet Franc. Fine and elegant, intense ruby red color with purple highlights. On the nose can be perceived intense aromas of plum’s jam and cherry with delicate hints of black pepper, liquorice and cocoa. The palate is powerful and rich with elegant tannin and soft balsamic and mineral notes.

James Suckling: 94 Points

A red with blueberry and raspberry character, as well as black olive. Full body. Medium-chewy tannins. Flavorful finish. Shows polish and seriousness, as always.
