Giuseppe Maria “Giugi” Sesti did not choose a career in wine making, it chose him. Originally a vice-director of a local Baroque opera in Tuscany, Sesti would spend his spare time at the local wineries. Working in the Cellar and the Vineyards for friends and neighbors, Sesti’s passion for wine grew along with his experience. In helping his friends and neighbors Sesti realized simplicity and careful attention in the vineyard is what lead to producing the best wines.

In 1991 Sesti planted his own vineyards around his estate, formerly the “Castle of Argiano”. Having written books on Astronomy, Sesti was no stranger Biodynamics. Sesti applied his knowledge of the moons influence on living things in his vineyards and still today the family still applies these eco-friendly philosophies.

Sesti’s 2019 Brunello has been awarded 96 Pts Decanter. Decanter looks for balance, so you know this is classic style Brunello. Magnificent florals, medium bodied, great acidity, great intensity. The wine is going to age out incredibly well. This producer believes in all organic and biodynamic practices, no chemicals are used in the vineyard, and it shows in the wine. Clean, pure Brunello of the highest order!

Winemaker Notes: A generous Brunello that radiates Mediterranean warmth. The regal perfume is both sweet and savory, with ripe berry fruit accented by balmy herbs and earthy wafts of incense. This deep, rich red is so elegant it feels almost weightless, its suave tannins gently ushering in the long, fragrant finale.

96 Pts Decanter - Planted in 1986 on Montalcino’s southern slopes, Sesti’s 13 hectares are freshened by an eastward tilt, constant breezes, and surrounding woodlands. Ripeness allies with brightness, particularly in this 2019, which recalls the joyfulness of the estate’s IGT and Rosso di Montalcino counterparts but with the gravitas of Brunello. There's a sweetness of fruit and fragrance as sandalwood, arbutus shrub and vanilla bean suffuse lush red cherry, and it flows with grace and ease. Yet as becoming as this seems to be now, it is tightly wound underneath that gracious core – the intricate structure is fashioned for endurance.
