Sette Ponti Toscana Crognolo 2020
Tenuta Sette Ponti is a breath-taking Tuscan Estate located in the heart of Chianti. The name Sette Ponti means “seven bridges”, and it is a reference to the seven bridges crossing the Arno River on a road that leads to Florence from Arezzo. The estate was constructed in the mid thirteenth century and took nearly 40 years to build. If you look at Leonardi DaVinci’s painting of the Mona Lisa, the estate can be noticed in the far right of the background.
1997 is the year when it all changed for this magnificent estate. It was purchased by a group of well-respected Tuscan Producers, none more notable than Dr. Piero Antinori. This estate turned into one of the finest in the region when they hired the great Carlos Ferrini and his Assistant Gioia Cresti. Carlos Ferrini is at the top of the food chain of Italian winemakers. Aside from producing this wine, he also makes wines such as Casanova de Neri, Petrolo Galatrona, La Massa, Podere Giodo, and many more high scoring, incredible quality wines.
Mr. Ferrini is undisputedly one of the greatest winemakers in Italy having been awarded “winemaker of the year” by Wine Enthusiast as well as Gourmet Traveller WINE multiple times.
91 Pts Decanter - New to the Place de Bordeaux this year, the second wine to the flagship Oreno. This is darkly scented with a floral-touched nose, blackcurrants, violet potpourri and liquorice. So juicy and seductive on the palate, this has a depth which is beguiling, layering the dark fruit, herbal and salty flavours on the tongue - a sweet, sticky almost liquorice blackcurrant added to by a black pepper and minty aftertaste giving some minerality to the palate. Nicely structured and round. This is ample and fresh - easy to drink with lots to like. Ageing for 12-14 months in tonneaux and barriques.
A soft and caressing red with a full body and plush, finely woven tannins. Plenty of dark cherry, mulberry, chocolate and some bark. Citrus zest and dried flowers, too. Lightly chewy at the end.
A firm red, featuring cherry and blackberry flavors, with mineral and tobacco accents. Shows depth and balance, with a solid layer of tannins lining the finish.
